A Mighty Man Fallen
James E. Faust, Second Counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away this morning.
From the official church newsroom:
President Faust, 87, had served in the First Presidency since 1995 and as a General Authority of the Church for 35 years. A Church statement today said that President Faust had died of “causes incident to age.”
President Faust was appointed second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 12 March 1995. The First Presidency is the highest presiding body in the government of the Church.
I’ve always enjoyed the talks given by President Faust. They are full of both humility and doctrine. I’m saddened by the news, but can’t help but picture those on the other side of death quite ecstatic with the entrance of a spiritual giant.

I really enjoyed Elder Faust’s talks. They were always very insightful.
My dad just had lunch with President Faust’s son, Marcus on Monday and
he was telling my dad that his father wasn’t doing so well. However, I
don’t think anyone expected him to pass quite so soon. He was a
spiritual giant and one of my favorites! My family had the opportunity
to be around his family on a few special occasion/holidays and there
were three things that I have always remembered and loved…
(1) I saw him pass by a mirror a few times and each time he stopped to
fix his hair. I thought that was so funny that an Apostle of the Lord
would care how he looked….I guess they are normal people too!
(2) One New Year’s Eve as we walked into the house he greeted each of
us with a hug and held our faces in his hands. He even told my sister
Cortney she had beautiful eyes. I remember him being so gentle, loving
and really quite funny!
(3) The summer before my senior year he came to Las Vegas and spoke to
all of the youth in the valley at Cheyenne High School. He was talking
about our testimonies when he said, “If you don’t have one of your own
yet, lean on mine. For I know, like the brother of Jared, that Jesus
Christ lives”. I remember exchanging glances with my dad and wondering
if he just said what I thought he did. Look that reference
up…amazing testimony!
I am sad for his family but I am sure he is in a much better place. He has touched so many people while he was here and I am sure he is doing the same on the other side. I am actually a little jealous…he is in the most peaceful and loving place. Makes you realize what a wicked world we are in. He will truely be missed by all.
