Did I ever find a gem

October 27, 2004 ·

Well, i am closing in on 8,000 30,000 songs on my computer. To be honest, it has become a sort of addiction and I like to collect songs. I’ll have you know that these are not just any songs that I can get my hands on. That would be much to easy to increase the amount. Rather, all of these songs are songs that I know and enjoy. Oftentimes I will let iTunes just play songs randomly and I love to hear all the songs. There is everything from Les Miserables to Willie Nelson to Ying Yang Twins to Mr Rogers greatest hits. (That last one is a really fun cd.)

Well, every once and a while you come across a song that is a great find. i call them my gems. They are usually by a little known artist, and they are songs that I can just listen to over and over again. “Divide me” by Kalai was one of those songs. Well, I found a song recently that has joined the ranks. It is a song called “Winter” by Joshua Radin. He has such a mellow voice and great harmonization. He also has another great song called “Today”, but “Winter” is something special. Visit the Itunes Music Store and take a listen. They are GREAT!!

One last thing, speaking of mellow voices and great sound, did all of you hear/see james taylor play the national anthem at the World Series!! I was so excited, I didn’t know he was going to be playing, but when I turned on the tv it had a close up of hands on a guitar and I was like, “OH MY GOSH!!! THOSE ARE JAMES TAYLORS HANDS!!!!” I was excited. (Before you call that psycho, I recognize his hands because I watch them when I am trying to learn his music.”

Finally, on Nov 1st James Taylor is going to release his first ever Christmas album . It will only be sold at Hallmark. I have not heard it yet, but as you can imagine, I am very very very very excited. I will be there first thing that morning. I am going to try and get at least 100 people to buy it. That is my goal. Please let me know if you get it so I can keep track. I also want to know what you think of it.

Thanks for stopping by. To keep up with the Stucki family, feel free to subscribe to my RSS feed or signup for updates by email.

    Hey Brian,
If you like James Taylor, check him out on “West Wing” I’m not sure when it airs, but I worked on that episode and got to see him perform it. I usually say hi to most anybody I work with, but I was too chicken because I’ve listened to him since I was a kid. He performs a Sam Cooke song.

    Very, very nice…. thx

I don’t know if you have heard Parrish & Toppano before, but they have produced a couple of “gems”…. “I have breathed within thee” and the “Royal Falcon”

I saw them in South Africa in concert… they only had a grand piano and their voices… it was truly amazing.

After 20 years working in the US and Mexico, Lorenzo (Ren) Parrish has returned to his native Australia, and runs a recording studio. He recently recorded and produced a new album for Australian country legend Smokey Dawson, then 92 years old!

Not sure what happened to Parrish though……….

I just met Ren over Thanksgiving in LA. He and his wife Katrina are still working with Paul on CA’s central coast (near Morro Bay and Atascadero). He is working on conversations among Jews, Christians and Muslims as a way to foster peace. The music arising from his research is phenomenal; it is reminiscent of some of Handel’s Messiah.

I hope you might be able to help me, I played a very old cassette I found in an old box in storage and was blown away by the track “The Royal Falcon” by Parrish and Toppano. I am desperate to get the lyrics.

The lyrics for ‘The Royal Falcon’ are based on writings by Baha’u'llah who is the founder of the Baha’i faith (which you may already know) so you can go to http://www.bahai.org and look there.

Thank God that there are a few people who recognize this exellent work by Parrish & Toppano! The Royal Falcon. I wish my stolen tape would somewhere surface again! I lived in South Africa up to 1995. Now in the netherlands. I would be greatful if someone would help me recover the music of this duo!

If you want more info on Parrish & Toppano contact me. Partial list of the tracks from the vinyl ‘The Royal Falcon’ which I bought in May 1988.Cello,The Royal Falcon,Light in the darkness,The girl that I never knew,Closer & Closer I have breathed within thee,Letter to Jesse,Astronaut. Many lyrics are based on hidden words of the Baha’u'llah.
    The Royal Falcon lyrics:
‘I am the Sun of Wisdom and the Ocean of Knowledge.
‘I cheer the faint and revive the dead.
‘I am the guiding Light that illumineth the way.
‘I am the Royal Falcon on the arm of the Almighty.
‘I unfold the drooping wings of every broken bird and
    start it on its flight.
