Goodbye My Pink and White Friends
Perhaps some of you have heard already, but the Mother’s Cookies (famous for the wonderful cookies pictured above) had an abrupt closing of their doors a few days ago and will no longer make cookies. Yes, that means no more circus animal cookies. (My awesome wife went and bought out the bags at Target for hoarding.)
I can’t tell you how bummed I am about this news. I love these cookies. They were such a treat growing up. Also, the factory was based in Oakland and when I was living in San Francisco I ate them all the time. They were fresh and scrumptious after arriving from the other side of the bay.
If you want to read more of the history of the nearly 100 year old company, this article is good.
Now, why can’t we get congress to bailout a company like this?

This makes me definitely sad. I too, loved those cookies! Share?
What! Are you kidding me! That is complete tragedy! I guess I better start hoarding . . . .
Mom, if you make it to our house in the next six months for dinner, we’ll be sure to serve them for dessert. (The bags expire in six months…give or take.)
Crystal, I’m glad you’ve joined me in seeing the tragedy and call to action. How come in all the counsel on food storage we were never told to stockpile animal cookies?
I totally remember the first time that I ate Mother’s Taffy cookies at your dads house. I love those and the animal cookies. So sad.
These cookies are like my cryptonite. I can’t turn them down and have a hard time stopping. My favorite cookies.
i hadn’t heard this! But you are so right about these cookies. I remember my dad could only eat these at work once we found out my Tessa is allergic to red dye; he LOVES these cookies.
Weird… I swear that a week ago, we were talking about cookies and I said that I was having a craving for the pink and white sprinkled cookies. We thought it was a funny craving since I haven’t eaten them since I was about 10. I think it was just premonition for the urgency needed to get em’ while I can! Sad!! I remember always choosing only 1 color (I need to hurry and try them again so I can remember) because I thought it had more flavor— I think it was the white ones.
Yep, the financial crisis sure is hitting hard on United States.
This is so sad, I will have to go out and see if I can find any here in Bountiful. My Grandma and mom always had these as a real treat for us, and I did it for my kids, this is not good. Tena
I hardly know you, but I am officially depressed. My sister and I used to fight over whose favorite cookies these were first. She’s older so I guess she wins. sucky! Off to Target…
