I’m Good and I’m Not Good

December 20, 2006 ·

I think that all of us have things that we are naturally good at, and things that we are naturally not good at. I’m not talking about things you do great thru practice and perfection. I’m just talking about things that you can do naturally.

For instance, I’m good at catching things when they are dropped or knocked over. If I drop a pen or bagel, my mind seems to work well on grabbing it out of the air. This un-practiced talent has saved me (and others) in the past.

On the flip side, I am very bad at getting the right size lid for my cups. When I fill up my lemonade at a fast food joint, I always have a hard time grabbing the right size lid for my cup on the first try. I don’t know what it is, but I almost always need a second try.

If you have natural, random things that you do well/don’t do well, I’d love to hear them. Maybe we share a talent.

That’s a thought provoking question. One thing I am really good at is packing a suitcase. I can pack really fast and always fit everything in that I need. It’s something weird to be good at, but I can consider that a “natural talent”. On the other hand, I am not so good at doing laundry. No matter how much I try not to, I always ruin something with the bleach or something like that. It’s a curse. :)

Interesting. I think the things you do naturaly are easy to take for granted because there isn’t much effort on your part…but they might be hard for someone else because it isn’t their “gift”. (I like to find someone in a social situation that might feel left out and purposefully include them. Does that count?)

I’m only saying this because I’ve noticed it pretty regularly throughout my life, not because I want anyone to test me on it. I probably couldn’t do it on command anyway. I can hear a pitch or a tune of a song and walk away and three hours later (or a day or whatever) hit the exact same pitch. Or even weirder, the other day I was singing a song and came to a part with a note I really wasn’t even sure of but when I opened my mouth the perfect pitch came out as if I knew it all along. It kind of surprised me. It’s kind of fun and I secretly have a proud moment each time it happens:)

and I would like to confirm Jamie’s lack of laundry skills…:)

Ok, cool blog. I guess I should start responding to all the entries and not just the ones that allow me to brag about myself. Alright, one thing I am naturally really good with is the presentation of my dinner plates. This might sound weird but it is not a joke. When the entire family is all dishing up the same grub from the same cooking pots…mine is always the one that looks like it should be on a menu or something. Now on the flip side, I am just flat out terrible at picking up words to songs. Even if i sit down and try to learn words to one song, my attention gets lost somewhere and I just can’t do it. Oh well, I sing along anyway.

I know I already answered, but I have another thing that I am REALLY not good at. I always put a key into a lock upside down. By habit, I always put the thicker side on the bottom. I don’t know why. Then I flip it over to actually get in.

And I vouch that Dallas is HORRIBLE at lyrics- ex… My fair lady, you’re so pretty!

As long as we’re still listing, I thought of a couple more.

I’m really good at being observant of my surroundings.

I’m really, really, bad at peeling a hard boiled egg.

I’m also really good at being observant and noticing lots of little things.

I’m horrible at peeling oranges. Last week a friend and I sat down to eat oranges while watching TV. He finished his orange in about 2 minutes. It took me 20 minutes.

i am really good at typing things really fast. and playing the piano.

im really bad at listening to other people sometimes. and i just realized that i can be a little slow sometimes even though Brian and my family just think im doing it on purpose. Candace mostly thinks i do it on purpose. shame on her. haha.

I’ve noticed before at easedropping.( yes you probably don’t want to hang around with me). I have good hearing, but also I can piece things together .By hearing one side of a conversation (a telephone call) i can piece together who it is or what it is about.
