Kermit Is A Smart Guy…er…Frog

June 1, 2007 ·

Since we signed up for Netflix about six months ago, I’ve seen a lot of movies that I haven’t watched for a long time. These are the movies that you never think to grab at the video store, or they just aren’t stocked because they aren’t popular enough. With Netflix, you can search thru the movies and find the gems from your childhood.

In the last week, we’ve watched Pete’s Dragon, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, Grumpy Old Men (part one and two), and The Muppet Movie. These are all great movies that are even better than I remember. I especially enjoyed The Muppet Movie.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen the muppet gang gather together and make their way to Hollywood. This is the first viewing of the film as an adult. What an inspiring movie it can be. There are so many life lessons that are thinly veiled by the muppets and their trials. After viewing, I decided that we could use more people with the Kermit attitude on life. He had so many great lines that I added to my Quote Book.

On Positive Attitude:
After realizing that his skinny legs and old schwinn would never get him to Hollywood, “Sheesh,” he said. “What in the world made me think I could make this trip on a bicycle?” He shook his head and looked at the nearest place that smelled like food. “The El Sleezo Café,” he read on the sign. “It doesn’t smell promising, but a frog’s gotta eat.”

On Differing Viewpoints:
In an attempt to recruit Kermit to be the salesman for his frog leg restaurants, Doc Hopper places a large billboard with Kermit pitching the food. When Kermit sees this sign, Hopper approaches him. He was smiling, thrilled with the billboard. “You got the picture, boy? You see what I mean? Kermit the Frog, symbol of Doc Hopper’s French fried frog legs! Isn’t that splendid? Just splendid! Just take a look at it.”

Kermit glanced at it with disgusted horror. “All I can see are millions of frogs on tiny crutches,” he said.

There are so many great lines. If it’s been a while, I suggest a re-viewing of this awesome movie.

I really liked the song “Rainbow Connection” when I was kid, and it would of course be an understatement to say that Kermit has a distinctive voice when he sings it.
