Often Imitated Never Duplicated
December 5, 2005 ·
Over the weekend, “The Wizard Of Oz” was on television. I had a good time watching the film, as it had been a long time. I’ll tell you what, the sets are much more fake looking when you are older. Oh well, great movie.
But after watching that film again, I added one more phrase to my “Movie Phrases That Are Often Quoted But Never Done Well” list. As you would expect, the list is quotes from movies that people always recognize, but not because they sound similar to the original. My List so far:
- “Say hello to my little friend!” -Scarface
- “AHHHHHHHHHH!!!” -Kevin from Home Alone putting on after shave
- “I’ll get you my pretty, and your little dog too!” -the Wicked Witch of The West from The Wizard Of Oz
- “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father: prepare to die.” -Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
I will add to this list as necessary.

What about “I’ll be back.” -Terminator This one bugs me pretty bad…
Yes Jamie! How can I leave that one off!!
How about Michael Keaton saying “I’m Batman.”
you now are going to get random voicemail’s and phone calls of people who just are screaming “ahhhhhhhh” and random quotes. I think that you just did it for that reason. You really like to hear all these said. On the other hand, every one you get you should record and make some kind of mix: The “bad movie quote” remix.
how about ‘big gulps, huh?’
You forget the oft-imitated lines from Clint Eastwood in Sudden Impact: “Go ahead. Make my day.” Or, “You’ve gotta ask yourself, ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well do ya, punk?” (although I think Jim Carrey did a pretty good job on the latter in The Mask).
Steven, great ones to add to this list.
Don’t forget “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” The one and only Forest can pull this one off.
Have you gotten any phone calls?
Hollywood’s Poorly Done Quotes…
Let me give you a list of quotes that are always repeated in movies but uttered do miserably that it strikes you hard.
So next time you watch those movies, you can blurt it out before the actors do, but of course better than them
Scarface …
