Some Books I Enjoyed in 2022

As I mentioned before, in our house we all try to keep our Kindles loaded and available throughout the year. (I am a heavy user of iPad, but for reading, it’s all about the Kindle Paperwhite.)

Here are a few of the books I read in 2022 that you might enjoy:

Okay for Now: A book about a young boy who moves to a new town and tries to find his place. It’s amazing the way that your emotions change for him as you read the story. I love how the author kept writing “Do you know how that feels?” More than once, I felt that question.

Die With Zero: This book encourages you to use your money now, instead of let it grow and go unused. There is all sorts of encouragement to have the experiences in life early and often. This way, you can enjoy them now, and enjoy the memories for longer.

My overarching goal is to get you to think about your life in a more purposeful, deliberate manner, instead of simply doing things as you and others have always done them. Yes, I want you to plan for your future—but never in such a way that you forget to enjoy the present.

It also recommends to find a better way to pass along inheritance.

Most of the message can be understood in the first half of the book. You can read the rest if you want it more in-depth.

I’ve recommended this book a lot.

Whatever Happened to Faith?: This book was recommended by a person I trust so I read it right away. It’s a good reminder that keeping faith may take effort. It also helps you understand loss of faith in others. (Much like one of my favorite talks.)

I’ve never struggled with growing faith, but I desire to understand those who do. I want to help. I recommend this book for all teachers and leaders in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Stolen Focus: Why You Can’t Pay Attention: This book touches on all parts of attention and distraction. Social media, consuming information too quickly, etc. It also gives reason for more fictional reading in your life. (Something I struggle with.)

I wondered if the motto for our era should be: I tried to live, but I got distracted.

Futureproof: 9 Rules for Humans in the Age of Automation: If you think your job might be replaced by a robot someday, this book could help.

Every year I speak to a group of high school graduates and I tell them that the best thing they can do is be interesting. Find a story to tell, and tell it well. The message in this book is similar.

Saints 3 Boldly, Nobly, and Independent: This is the third volume of the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I really enjoyed volume 1. Volume 2 was good as well as the Gospel started going to the world.

Volume 3 is focused on 1893 to 1955 so you make it through some wars and other hard times.

The books is available in Gospel Library at no cost. All three books are available on Kindle as well. (The first two are free, the third just $2.)

I hope you had some great books in 2022 as well.
