Thinking About Thinking

At the recommendation of a friend, I sat down to read “As A Man Thinketh” by James Allen. It was wonderful.

The book was published in 1902 and has been read and offered all over the world. It talks about the power of thinking and how your thoughts literally make up who and what you are. It has a literal connection to your surroundings, financial state, health, actions, etc. It is a book often cited by the leaders of my church and has great advice and instruction in it.

I’ve always been a thinker. I very much enjoy working thru problems in my head. I enjoy thinking of new avenues to take and new ideas to spread. I enjoy being offered new topics and then trying to educate myself and form an opinion on them. I really appreciated the way that this book reinvigorated and reconstructed my thought process.

A few of my favorite quotes:

Let a man radically alter his thoughts, and he will be astonished at the rapid tansformation it will effect in the material conditions of his life. Men imagine that thought can be kept secret, but it cannot; it rapidly crystalizes into habit, and habit solidifies into circumstance.

Circumstance does not make the man, it reveals him unto himself.

I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I just ordered 15 copies so I could have them on hand to give to people who I think will benefit from and enjoy it. It’s a small book, and a quick read.

It is offered for $3.50 here. Also, since it was published so long ago, it is now in public domain and so I have it available as a download here. (Link to pdf) Print it out, mark it up, find application to yourself.

I hope you enjoy it. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

PS, Richard, the copy you let me borrow got all worked in and marked up. When I receive my batch of new books, I’ll have one in the mail to you.
